just go along the road and ask around where most of the people are.
i decided to do something stupid and went to Vienna by foot, which took me 14 hours, but at this place you get a ride just by existing. cross the border.

only a few PL/H/CZ cars passed and everyone ignored me. this roundabout is not a truly convenient place for drivers to stop, I would personally stay at the separate lane a bit earlier.

in theory this is the best you got in order to escape the north of Vienna (hell)
workday morning was very tough, but I persevered and reached Prague in 6 hours even with horrible luck.
please ask to take you to gas stations, direct rides to brno or prague are very unlikely.

go further. you'll get more traffic from turning lanes. morning on a weekday is tough.

just go down the road for 5 more minutes. there's more space to stop, more traffic and more visibiluty. at this point most cars are still grumpy austrian grannies who are driving to the shopping mall.

A good place if you want to go towards Italy, France and Germany or the Czech Republic. We were heading towards Budapest and we had some difficulties to find someone who was driving in that direction. But a lot can depend on what time you hitchhiking. On the plus side, a lot of trucks and quite a lot of passenger car traffic at the gas station. A good place to stop/accommodate. There is a shower, laundry, hostel.

One of the best places to hitchhike near Katowice. We planned to go in the direction of Ostrava in the further Budapest and we managed to catch the driver to Vienna. Overall, a great place to catch a foot in the direction of Wroclaw, Berlin, Vienna. It is worth going to the parking lot and asking people where they are going - a lot of individual drivers and trucks.

A great spot for stopping a ride to Brno/Prague. Even though we started late in the evening (like two hours till sunset), we knew getting a ride towards Czechia will be quite easy since there are so many cars with czech/german/polish plates here, however most of the cars were austrian plates going back southbound. Most to the drivers were kind, responding (boosted our hopes and morale). In the end managed to secure a lift 70km beyond Brno.

Hitchwiki recommeds this spot for catching a ride towards the A5 Autobahn in order to get further north to Czechia. Do not make the same mistake as us (me and my friend), and try to get a ride from here on SUNDAY!!! Kaufhaus is closed on sunday, very little traffic, the locals who drive here do not like hitchhikes and will treat you like UFO (mostly ingoring you tho), however, miraculously we managed to stop two young fellas in a mercedes after like an hour of suffering and zero hope.

A local from Vienna drove me here saying it will be a good spot to go to Czechia since many people from CZ work here. And indeed it was true. I wouldn't choose the place myself, that's why 4/5 but it was great in the end.

Got a lift to Wolkersdorf with a sign "Brno" however during that hour, only about 10 Czech cars passed me. Also I didn't get too many interactions with the drivers.. but it's a nice spot to get from Vienna since the bus to the shopping mall is free - also this place is recommended by Hitchwiki👍🏼

From citycenter go to the Florisdorf district. There take tram to the end of street Brünner Strasse. Don't try to hitchhike in the city - everywhere are symbols to disable stop. Go on the end of the city and find the spot - you can stay everywhere

It can be excellent place but I advise to use sign like A2-SOUTH, A2-SUD. We have done it with my girlfriend and 2 young Italian women stopped :) Some Czech drivers going to south during summer can stop, but they often have only 1 seat free. Try to get over Wien at any rate, hitchhiking there can be a problem!

My advise - walk 100 metres more out of the city (see the map), and get to a much better spot at a small bus stop.

Front of the Merkur is it very good place. The cars are slow because there have a light, and also can stop for you. But if you are going to Czech maybe try to go first to Mistelbach, this is the last city in Austria. And in 2012.aug here was the highway end.

After 3 hours there, it was dark and I only stopped a car.

Waves of traffic, due to traffic light further back, so is a bit slower than most spots. But you can hitch the lane turning to the shop which works well, more than enough room for cars. Traffic lights also give you a chance to speak to some drivers.

Over one year later, I was here again, and have to take back what I said before. The place where I hitchhiked last year is not a good spot. This time I hitchhiked right next Mercur and ofter 20 mins got a lift to the highway. Unless it is Friday and lots of Poles and Czechs are going home the chance someone will take you to the Czech Republic is low, so hitchhike without a sign, and get as far as you can ;)
